The Only Boys of their Generation…So Far

Kids are hard to photograph. They move too fast. They change moods and get distracted easily. The key is to put them in the mood for a photoshoot like dressing them up but make sure (first) they aren’t starving and had already taken their afternoon nap. Then give them something interesting to look at or play with. Here are my second attempt to child photography (just note that my AF is broken):

I had to make some animal sounds to make Justine (1 year old) look up at the camera and smile.

This time I’m singing a familiar kiddie song for him.

For toddlers, motivation is quite different.

Especially when they feel too shy, give them something to hold on to and make them think that you are taking pictures of the thing they’re holding, in this case, the balloons. So this way, he is actually curious to look into the camera.

Never forget to try different perspectives. I like taking the “bird’s eye view” of things, cleaner backgrounds, wider capture.

All shots where taken a few months ago with natural light coming from the window, on manual focus and manual exposure. No post-processing except resizing.

I only expected Pan de Sal as a snack today, instead I got this:

I love the dark chocolate shavings on top. My fave!

Then again, too much of this is not good for my pregnancy.

Dear Baby,

You are now 3 months in my tummy… You came as a surprise for us, do you know that baby? We never thought you’d come so early. That only means you are truly God’s gift. But we’ve always wanted you. Always.

Yesterday, your dad heard your heartbeat inside me for the first time. He can’t help to keep smiling. It was the second for me. However, regardless how many times we hear you, the feelings are always the same: elated, ecstatic, overwhemled, excited, grateful. Hearing you everytime, feels like a confirmation that you now exists, baby. You are really there aren’t you? Oh, we are all so excited to meet you! And take pictures of you!

Your daddy and I are doing everything to keep my body healthy for you so you could be healthy, too. So don’t worry okay, I’ll keep you safe, and I’m doing everything I could to do that.

We still don’t know if you’re going to be a boy or a girl, but we’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, I will help you here on the outside world to grow up. I will wait for you patiently and will be with you every step of the way. When you’re old enough to hear me through my tummy, I’ll talk to you, I’ll sing to you, I’ll read to you, and I’ll make you hear music to make you smart. We are so ready for you baby, and so many people around us are excited too. We haven’t seen you yet, but we already love you! I want you to know that this early. For me and you dad, you are the most important thing to us now.

Rainy days

It’s typhoon season here in the Philippines so most days are wet and dreary.

And gloomy.

Sometimes I like it nevertheless. I prefer wearing jackets than trying and tiring to cool myself with a fan.
