July 22 ’09 Solar Eclipse

The July 22, 2009 total solar eclipse will be the longest in history — about 6 minutes (as viewed from China). In Zamboanga City, Philippines however, has only 27% visibility.

Today, therefore, I have my first eclipse shots. Since we only have a partial eclipse, it’s not all impressive but it’s always nice to document scientific occurences like this. For those who miss it, here is a view from Zamboanga City.

In other parts of the Philippines, the eclipse should start by 8:33 a.m. In Zamboanga, the sun showed signs of the occurrence around 9:05 a.m.

After about 10 to 15 minutes, the moon is more visible now against the sun and slowly shifts downward.

A while later after that, the moon takes that 27% visibility as seen from Zamboanga City. It’s the most that we can see from here.

A little past 10 a.m. the moon now moves back down into nothingness.

Just a little bit more…

Now it’s almost gone…

The next solar eclipse will be on 2010 but there will be a lunar eclipse on August 6 and that will be the last of the eclipses for the year.

Armed with an old diskette film attached to the lens, photos are unedited except for some tight cropping.
