My Self-Discovery About Photography

Posted by: pamela15s on: May 5, 2009

I don’t have to tell anyone that I have been gone from the blogging world for a while and the lack of update proves that. Today, I got the urge to just shout out what I feel and learned about my journey to being a Nat Geo Photographer someday. (What wishful thinking!Ugh.)

First off: I realized that there are so many photographers out there, and good ones. Most of them portrait photographers and involving most of the time, fashion photography. So, I crossed that out from the things-to-do-as-a -photographer list. No, I don’t fear competition. I think photograhers in that arena are just too overpopulated.

I know fashion photography will give me more knowledge I need, however I decided not to delve too much on that. On the other hand, I do like taking portraits. And I only take portraits of people I know or those that has some meaning to me.

With that, I realized that, I only took pictures where I find my emotion in it. Some things make me feel awe and wonder, others pain, some others just plain appreciation and happiness. But what strikes me most, I learned, is taking photos that has some story in it. I don’t have many of that kind because I’m still too shy to go out and explore the world with the camera strewn over my neck. That’s what I’m going to beat. Isn’t that what Nat Geo is all about?

Then there are landscapes, my weakest point. I get a hundred or so shots and only find one or two that fit my liking. I’m struggling and I’m frustrated.

I have so much to learn and I take advantage of the resources from the internet. Some days I feel my brainwaves are trapped in our small room, so that’s when I get out and get the photos. However, there is one thing I have been considering for a long time. The only one reason for depression: I think I might have to give up this blog and open a multiply account or move everything to wordpress.

My ultimatum? If I don’t get at least 10 unique comments for this post until my next post, then maybe it’s time.

My essential point is: I’m happy and having the time of my life.

Note to the world: Photos in this website including my header are Copyright of Pamela S. Tan, so BEWARE!

anyway, I appreciate the support! really, tenchu gat. :D

Pam, Awesome Post! I love it. I can see the improvements in your photos, I like the portrait shots and the macro ones, I agree with the story thing, as they say a picture says a thousand words and the more a picture provokes thoughts, the better it is. I think. Also, I second the motion when it comes to landscape photography, the thing with it i think is because when you do landscape shots, it’s always almost given that the scenery you’d like to capture is beautiful on it’s own and the real challenge to it is to take a photo that would do justice to the natural beauty that it already has, It’s a also rare to take a landscape photo and see it differently. Again, awesome post! I really envy you having a working camera. hahaha

thank you marlon, salamat salamat :D

It’s nice to know nag-improve na ko, hehe. But I have a long way to go! Thank you again for the support! :D
